This collection of published blog postings from a retired U.S. Foreign Service officer offers a perspective challenging facile suppositions, and notes historic moments of interest for the general reader.

This book is a series of reflections at the point of retirement from the U.S. Foreign Service. The postings, all colored by the author's experience, include short essays on the following themes: personal anecdote, people/profiles, the Foreign Policy seen by a mid-level official, human nature, government functions, and "other" (music, immigration, condominium rules on dog comportment…). The collection is marked by a tone of light humor and social/institutional criticism. The book should serve as an "easy read," in short segments. At the same time, the full text, printed in chronological order of their publication dates, will give a perspective which questions and challenges facile suppositions, and notes historic moments of interest for the general reader.
Excusing Sinners and Blaming God Excusing Sinners and Blaming God

Calvinist determinism destroys moral responsibility and makes God the author of sin. These two accusations are not new, and were arguably anticipated by Paul in Romans 9, but they remain today the most important objections offered against Calvinist/determinist views of human free will. This book is a philosophically rigorous and comprehensive defense of Calvinism against these two families of arguments. With respect to human moral responsibility, it discusses whether determinism destroys «free will,» turns humans into pets or puppets, and involves or is analogous to coercion and manipulation. It responds to the consequence argument and direct argument for incompatibilism, the principle of alternate possibilities, the «ought implies can» maxim, and related claims. With respect to the authorship of sin, it discusses whether Calvinist determinism improperly involves God in evil. Does it mean that «God sins,» or «causes sin,» or «wills sin» in problematic ways? «Does God intend our sin, or (merely) permit sin?» In each case the coherence of the Calvinist view is defended against its most potent objections, to reject the claim that Calvinism is «excusing sinners and blaming God.»

eBookIt Publishers announced release of a timely and politically charged autobiography of Nick Velli entitled "America's Death Spiral – Blaming Obama, Democrats and Political Correctness".

The author is an American octogenarian who was raised during the Great Depression and experienced the travail's of WWII and the following military interventions of Korea and Vietnam that changed the temperament and patriotism of Americans in many respects forever. Part 1 of the book tracks the dramatic and extraordinary events of the period from 1932 through 2015. Part 2 deals with the grim aspects of the near and distant future that Americans are now facing regarding racial divisiveness, Jihadist External and Internal Terrorism, and prospects of a catastrophic national financial collapse due to explosion of the national debt exceeding $20 trillion dollars. The author examines the ill-advised manipulation of the Democratic Party following LBJ that transformed to the policies of Progressives transitioning to a Socialistic model of government. This was greatly accelerated later by Barack Obama's promise of the "Fundamental Transformation" of the Founding Father's American democratic republic.
