Waiting

Waiting is a story of two odd couples in prose as marvellously idiosyncratic as its characters. Big is a hefty cross-dresser and Little is little. Both are long used to the routines of boarding house life in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, but Little, with the prospect of an inheritance, is beginning to indulge in the great Australian dream, which has Big worried. Little's cousin, Angus, is a solitary man who designs lake-scapes for city councils, and strangely constructed fireproof houses for the bushfire zone. A handy man, he meets Jasmin an academic who races in her ideas as much as in her runners. Her head is set on publishing books on semiotics and her heart is turned towards her stalled personal life. All four are waiting, for something if not someone. 'Philip Salom and I once watched a golf tournament together. A mutual friend was caddying and we talked along the fairways, discussed things in the long grass and conversed among the trees to the sound of light applause. I knew Philip was a poet but it was obvious to me by the final round that he was also a wonderful storyteller. As you are about to see, I was right.' – John Clarke 'Philip Salom's Waiting is a strangely compelling bittersweet tale of the marginalised and the searching. From a rooming house to the world of academia, the novel shimmers with a cast of larger-than-life characters – Big and Little, Angus and Jasmin. Weirdly moving, tender, and insightful.' – Antoni Jach 'Stories with flashes of poetry and sudden insight and such profound compassion that they should be labelled 'WARNING: Could make the reader kinder.' Send a copy to a politician.' – Sue Woolfe

“A masterpiece of thriller and mystery! The author did a magnificent job developing characters with a psychological side that is so well described that we feel inside their minds, follow their fears and cheer for their success. The plot is very intelligent and will keep you entertained throughout the book. Full of twists, this book will keep you awake until the turn of the last page.”

WAITING (The Making of Riley Paige—Book Two) is book #2 in a new psychological thriller series by #1 bestselling author Blake Pierce, whose free bestseller Once Gone (Book #1) has received over 1,000 five star reviews.
Brilliant 22 year old FBI intern Riley Paige struggles to decode the riddles of the sadistic serial killer dubbed by media as the “clown killer”—but finds it all becomes too personal when she herself, targeted, is in a battle for her life.
Recent college graduate Riley Paige is accepted into the prestigious FBI summer internship program, and is determined to make a name for herself. Exposed to many departments of the FBI, she thinks it will be a quiet summer—until a serial killer holds Washington by suspense. Dubbed the “clown killer,” he dressed and paints his victims as clowns, and mocks the FBI with tantalizing riddles in the media. He leaves everyone to wonder: is he a clown himself?
It seems that only Riley has the mind brilliant enough to decode the answers. And yet the journey into this killer’s mind is too dark—and the battle too personal—for Riley to come out unscathed. Can she win this deadly game of cat and mouse?
An action-packed thriller with heart-pounding suspense, WAITING is book #2 in a riveting new series that will leave you turning pages late into the night. Book #3 in THE MAKING OF RILEY PAIGE series will be available soon.
Waiting for the Etonians: Reports from the Sickbed of Liberal England

Do you remember what life was like before the crash?• When level-headed couples were still taking mortgages five times their joint income.• When the middle class was divided between the haves and the have yachts.• When Her Majesty's Government boasted that their 'light-touch regulation' of finance had abolished boom and bust, and laughed hysterically at anyone who disagreed.By Christmas 2008, eight banks had been part-nationalised, Woolworths had disappeared, unemployment had reached nearly two million and the country's debt had hit record levels. We are now a bankrupt nation. After the Great Crash of 2008, Americans could at least blame an incompetent right-wing government. But when the money ran out, Britain was ruled by left wingers who had grown up despising the 'funny-money' men. And yet, like the most gullible investors on Wall Street, New Labour prostrated themselves before the snake oil charmers of financial capital.Since they came to power in 1997, Nick Cohen has been taking the pulse of what has turned out to be the longest period of left-wing government in British history. Over a decade later, he reports from the sickbed of liberal England as battered and broken voters contemplate a remarkable shift. With splendid outrage and great compassion, Waiting for the Etonians, is an account of a country that, for the first time since the end of the Empire, is considering embracing the old ruling class it has despised for decades.

‘A lovely, romantic and historical read’ – Linda’s Book BagJune 1963, Clematis Cottage, Stoke St. Mary, HerefordshireI am really not sure why I am writing this. A foolish whim by a foolish old lady and it will probably sit in a box unread and decay much like its writer when Death makes his careless decision. But perhaps someone will find it. Someone will care enough to read and somehow I know that will happen.April 2000, Clematis Cottage, Stoke St. Mary, HerefordshireTired of her life in London, freelance illustrator Rachel buys the beautiful but dilapidated Clematis Cottage and sets about creating the home of her dreams. But tucked away behind the water tank in the attic and left to gather dust for decades is an old biscuit tin containing letters, postcards and a diary. So much more than old scraps of paper, these are precious memories that tell the story of Henrietta Trenchard-Lewis, the love she lost in the Great War and the girl who was left behind.
