The Future of Hedge Fund Investing. A Regulatory and Structural Solution for a Fallen Industry The Future of Hedge Fund Investing. A Regulatory and Structural Solution for a Fallen Industry

Автор: Monty Agarwal

Год издания:

A detailed look at how to fix the hedge fund industry The Future of Hedge Fund Investing spells out in refreshingly stark terms exactly how the industry let down its clients, and the changes needed to restore their confidence. Written by Monty Agarwal, the founder of Predator Capital Management, this insider's guide gives a full assessment of the business, including the advantages of hedge funds, their pitfalls, and, most importantly, how to avoid these missteps. The book begins by describing the hedge fund universe, which includes funds and fund of funds; fund regulators, major investors, and middlemen; and fee structures, incentives, and typical investment strategies. From here, Agarwal explores possible solutions and fixes as he touches upon several important issues within this field. Examines hedge funds' role in the 2008 market crisis and what can be learned from it Discusses the structural changes for fund of funds in areas including trading, diversification, risk management, and due diligence Provides guidance for investors to follow when interviewing hedge fund managers Whether you're a financial professional, a potential investor, or simply an interested reader, The Future of Hedge Fund Investing gives you a clear look at the state of hedge funds today as well as a picture of what the future may hold for them.

Stochastic Structural Dynamics. Application of Finite Element Methods Stochastic Structural Dynamics. Application of Finite Element Methods

Автор: Cho W. S. To

Год издания:

One of the first books to provide in-depth and systematic application of finite element methods to the field of stochastic structural dynamics The parallel developments of the Finite Element Methods in the 1950’s and the engineering applications of stochastic processes in the 1940’s provided a combined numerical analysis tool for the studies of dynamics of structures and structural systems under random loadings. In the open literature, there are books on statistical dynamics of structures and books on structural dynamics with chapters dealing with random response analysis. However, a systematic treatment of stochastic structural dynamics applying the finite element methods seems to be lacking. Aimed at advanced and specialist levels, the author presents and illustrates analytical and direct integration methods for analyzing the statistics of the response of structures to stochastic loads. The analysis methods are based on structural models represented via the Finite Element Method. In addition to linear problems the text also addresses nonlinear problems and non-stationary random excitation with systems having large spatially stochastic property variations. A systematic treatment of stochastic structural dynamics applying the finite element methods Highly illustrated throughout and aimed at advanced and specialist levels, it focuses on computational aspects instead of theory Emphasizes results mainly in the time domain with limited contents in the time-frequency domain Presents and illustrates direction integration methods for analyzing the statistics of the response of linear and nonlinear structures to stochastic loads Under Author Information – one change of word to existing text: He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)........

Structural Dynamic Analysis with Generalized Damping Models. Identification Structural Dynamic Analysis with Generalized Damping Models. Identification

Автор: Sondipon Adhikari

Год издания:

Since Lord Rayleigh introduced the idea of viscous damping in his classic work «The Theory of Sound» in 1877, it has become standard practice to use this approach in dynamics, covering a wide range of applications from aerospace to civil engineering. However, in the majority of practical cases this approach is adopted more for mathematical convenience than for modeling the physics of vibration damping. Over the past decade, extensive research has been undertaken on more general “non-viscous” damping models and vibration of non-viscously damped systems. This book, along with a related book Structural Dynamic Analysis with Generalized Damping Models: Analysis, is the first comprehensive study to cover vibration problems with general non-viscous damping. The author draws on his considerable research experience to produce a text covering: parametric senistivity of damped systems; identification of viscous damping; identification of non-viscous damping; and some tools for the quanitification of damping. The book is written from a vibration theory standpoint, with numerous worked examples which are relevant across a wide range of mechanical, aerospace and structural engineering applications. Contents 1. Parametric Sensitivity of Damped Systems. 2. Identification of Viscous Damping. 3. Identification of Non-viscous Damping. 4. Quantification of Damping. About the Authors Sondipon Adhikari is Chair Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Swansea University, Wales. His wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary research interests include uncertainty quantification in computational mechanics, bio- and nanomechanics, dynamics of complex systems, inverse problems for linear and nonlinear dynamics, and renewable energy. He is a technical reviewer of 97 international journals, 18 conferences and 13 funding bodies. He has written over 180 refereed journal papers, 120 refereed conference papers and has authored or co-authored 15 book chapters.

Meta-Analysis. A Structural Equation Modeling Approach Meta-Analysis. A Structural Equation Modeling Approach

Автор: Mike Cheung W.-L.

Год издания:

Presents a novel approach to conducting meta-analysis using structural equation modeling. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and meta-analysis are two powerful statistical methods in the educational, social, behavioral, and medical sciences. They are often treated as two unrelated topics in the literature. This book presents a unified framework on analyzing meta-analytic data within the SEM framework, and illustrates how to conduct meta-analysis using the metaSEM package in the R statistical environment. Meta-Analysis: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach begins by introducing the importance of SEM and meta-analysis in answering research questions. Key ideas in meta-analysis and SEM are briefly reviewed, and various meta-analytic models are then introduced and linked to the SEM framework. Fixed-, random-, and mixed-effects models in univariate and multivariate meta-analyses, three-level meta-analysis, and meta-analytic structural equation modeling, are introduced. Advanced topics, such as using restricted maximum likelihood estimation method and handling missing covariates, are also covered. Readers will learn a single framework to apply both meta-analysis and SEM. Examples in R and in Mplus are included. This book will be a valuable resource for statistical and academic researchers and graduate students carrying out meta-analyses, and will also be useful to researchers and statisticians using SEM in biostatistics. Basic knowledge of either SEM or meta-analysis will be helpful in understanding the materials in this book.
